January 31, 2022Blog

In this new section of our blog, we will be giving you a summary of what has been popular with searchers in the UK over the last month.

As the New Year began, many people were no doubt searching for New Year’s resolutions ideas and things to do with the bank holiday with both enjoying a 500% and 250% increase in searches respectively, along with searches for gym’s, holidays and calorie counting as we all tried to beat that Christmas bloat and the January blues by imagining our beach body ready selves in warmer climates somewhere.

Also, in January is of course the football transfer window, with many has enjoyed a 200% increase in searches as fans find out about footballers transferring in and out of their favourite football teams.

In the first month of January 2022 there has also been an increase in searches for many news stories.

At the beginning of the month was of course the passing of legendary Hollywood actress Betty White who died aged 99 on New Year’s Eve and there has been a 1,800% increase in searches for her. There was also the passing’s of US comedian Bob Saget and Meat Loaf which had a 1,350% and 1,400% increase in searches as well.

Other popular stories have been the Australian Open and the controversy surrounding Novak Djokovic and his Covid status which also had a 1,800% increase in searches.

There has also been continuing searches on the story involving Prince Andrew and his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, which this month resulted in the Prince losing his royal titles as the lawsuit bought against him in new York by Victoria Guiffre progresses.

Towards the end of the month, Chinese New Year has seen an increase in searches leading up to it’s February 1st date with a 450% increase in searches.

Finally, the Disney movie Encanto had a 350% rise in searches as a song from the film, We Don’t Talk About Bruno, became the first original Disney song to each reach Number 1 on the UK singles chart (fun fact for Disney and music trivia fans, according to the Official Charts Company only one other Disney soundtrack song reached number 1 which was Gareth Gates’ cover of Elvis Presley’s Suspicious Minds, which featured on the UK version of the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack in 2002 – though this was a cover, not an original song).
