Google Search Trends February 2022
February 28, 2022Blog
In this month’s report we will be taking a look at some of the most popular searches in the UK during February 2022.
Special Days
At the start of February there was of course Chinese New Year and the Year of Tiger which did have some searches in January but continued to grow in February with a 3,300% increase in searches on the day itself, after that of course was Valentine’s Day on February 14th which had a 600% increase in searches leading up to the big day. Another popular search was pancake day 2022 which had a 1,150% increase in searches, however it is later this year than in 2021, arriving on March 1st this year so we can expect searches to continue to increase for this query.
This also demonstrates that when an event changes date each year such as Easter or Chinese New Year etc. the day gets more searches as people want to know what day it is on, presumably to plan celebrations.
News Stories
There has also been an increase in various news stories over the course of the month.
The footballer Mason Greenwood was a breakout search as the footballer was accused of assault at the beginning of the month. There has also been an 800% and 500% increase in searches respectively for Ukraine and Russia, no doubt due to the escalating conflict in the region since fighting broke out last Thursday, with a 950% increase in searches for news on the conflict.
Another big event has been the Winter Olympics taking place in Beijing, with a 1,550% increase in searches, with its peak being the date of the opening ceremony on the 4th February.
Celebrity / Sports Stories
